EP Gear Oils for Industrial Gearboxes

ISO VG 220 gear oil is the default fill for most enclosed industrial gearboxes in the UK, which is why it is the grade we hold in the most depth in this category. Britannia stocks 11 industrial gear oil lines spanning ISO VG 150, 220, 460 and 680.

Reading the gearbox plate before you order

Two things decide the fill: the ISO viscosity grade, and whether the drive calls for an EP mineral oil or a synthetic. Worm drives in particular are often specified differently from helical units on the same site, because EP additives intended for steel-on-steel contact can attack bronze worm wheels. Tell us the gearbox make and duty and we will confirm the grade before you commit to a drum.
